International Certificate of Competence Test (Sail) (£180)
The ICC is required by many European countries for certain categories of pleasure boat. It is also useful in countries where compulsory certificates are required of nationals simply because officials expect to see such a certificate. Those holding a minimum qualification of Day Skipper Practical (Sail) or above may apply for an ICC. For those who do not, Anglesey School of Sailing offers a Boat Handling and Oral Test and on successful completion candidates may apply for an ICC.
The purpose of the practical test is to give every candidate the opportunity to show that they are capable of skippering a boat without endangering or damaging other people, boats or the marine environment. By oral and written answers candidates must demonstrate an understanding of the IRPCS (Coll Regs), SOLAS requirements, navigation, lights & sounds and pilotage.
Non-RYA Courses
Day Sails (£ 80)
These five hour sails are ideal for complete beginners who would like to sample sailing for a few hours to see how they enjoy it. These are also popular with people wanting to sail a different type of yacht from their usual one. Times of the day sails vary dependant upon tides. A typical day out would see us sailing along part of the Anglesey Coastline before returning to Holyhead. Hot and cold drinks and a sandwich lunch are provided onboard during the day.
Experience Weekends (£180)
These run from Friday evening through to Sunday afternoon. This is the choice for you if you would like to try a short period onboard, work on a specific area of training or work towards part of a qualification. A typical weekend will see us depart Holyhead on Saturday morning, sail around the Anglesey coast and moor up at the end of the day in one of the local harbours or marinas. There is usually the chance to stretch your legs ashore in the evening and visit a local hostelry. Sunday will see us return to Holyhead with sail training en route.

Own Boat Tuition
For customers who have their own yacht we have qualified experienced instructors. We can teach you how to handle your own boat in the tightest of marina situations and realise your boat's ability both at sea and within estuaries.
Own boat tuition will benefit you as the training you will experience is tailored to suit the handling characteristics of your particular boat.
The instruction can be given one to one but we suggest that you bring along your normal crew; it is just as important for them to know how to competently carry out their role onboard. Courses can be tailored to concentrate on close quarter handling, seamanship exercises, local pilotage and heavy weather training.
RYA courses on your own boat (£180/day )
Sailing - we can provide Start Yachting, Competent Crew, Day Skipper and Coastal Skipper.
RYA training through own boat tuition is limited to three students.
ICC assessment on your own boat (£95/person)
The International Certificate of Competence (ICC) is a qualification recognised throughout Europe and is a mandatory requirement in several countries. The assessment requires you to be at Day Skipper practical level for Sailing. It is possible to take a direct assessment on your own boat if you do not hold the relevant RYA qualification.
